Solar’s 2030 climate targets scientifically approved
Press release September 28, 2023
SBTi has approved Solar’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, in line with Paris Agreement.
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), one of the world’s most ambitious sustainability communities, has approved Solar’s target of being net-zero in scope 1 and 2 by 2030 and reducing emissions by 25% across the value chain.
“We are proud to receive this recognition from SBTi, and it proves that we are well on track with our ambitious climate goals,” says Mette Bredkjær, Director Sustainability, Solar. “We are working dedicatedly on getting tangible results: We are aiming for 100% renewable energy and are in the process of phasing out all gas boilers and installing solar panels on all suitable buildings. In 2022 alone, we have reduced our emissions in scope 1 and 2 by 23% compared to the year before.”
Further actions include replacing conventional light sources with LED lighting and sensors and conducting general energy optimisation as well as replacing the fleet with electric cars and installing EV chargers.
“The conversion of 38 hectares of land into forest, planting 116,000 trees, and laying out areas for biodiversity are also outcomes of Solar’s ambitious sustainability strategy,” Mette says.
We care about the world and believe that through commitment and a joint effort, we can change how we act and think. Being an enabler in the green transition, we can empower our customers through energy-optimising solutions and provide knowledge and raise competencies.
There is an increasing demand among customers for proof of how we contribute to reducing CO2 emissions. The approval from SBTi is an important step on the way of working dedicatedly towards a net-zero future.
