Intelligent light that brings you wellbeing
Light that makes a difference
You've probably noticed how sunshine and light can influence your mood. Why not try to light up the mood in your workplace? With the latest technologies and lighting products on the market, it can actually feel like the sun is shining indoor, even though heavy clouds fill up the sky outside.
The light is called circadian rhythm light and automatically adjusts to the time of day. This means that your day starts off with a calm and warm light, while it becomes more clear and blue during the day and then again fades to golden colours in the evening. Just like the rhythm of the sun. This type of light has made a huge difference within healthcare, in nursing homes, hospitals, in the psychiatry etc.
Below, you can learn more about the advantages of Solar’s circadian rhythm light.
Our employees say that it’s a much more comfortable light to work in. Several have asked if we’ve put in skylights. And finally, the staff sees that the light has a positive effect on our residentsBirte Schelde, Supervisor of dementia patients, Lindegården (care home), Denmark
Why choose circadian rhythm light?
Research shows that light has a big influence on sleep and our general wellbeing. This also applies to satisfaction with our working environment.
Furthermore, research shows that light with a high colour temperature increases mental activity with people and improves our working effort, while warm light makes us relaxed. Light actually inhibits production of the sleep hormone melatonin, which explains why we are more active during the day than in the night.
For people working during the night, circadian rhythm light is particularly beneficial. The light can be adjusted to lower production of the sleep hormone and thus prevent people from getting tired and falling asleep. In spaces where no natural light enters, circadian rhythm light can have a positive effect on the work too.
CASE: Circadian rhythm light in the dementia wing
At the care home Lindegården in Vejle, Denmark, new lights in the ceiling made life easier for the demented residents and the staff achieved a more calm and pleasant workplace.
"We experience a more natural circadian rhythm". Birte Schelde, Supervisor of dementia patients at the care home Lindegården is impressed by the results of the new light that they've had installed.
"We are very positive about it. The dynamic day light has a positive effect on the behaviour of the demented residents. Previously, the level of activity of the residents was very stable, also during the night. However now, the level of activity peaks in the middle of the day when the light is brightest, while the day starts off and ends quietly".
This is something that they haven’t experienced before.
“Having dementia means that one often has a hard time navigating in time and place. When is it day and night? And it entails having trouble sleeping during the night. Therefore, it is important with light that follows the daily rhythm”, explains Birte Schelde.
Solar supplied the light which goes under the name “Circadian rhythm light”. In the morning at 7 a.m., the light turns on automatically in a warm, yellow nuance. Closing in on noon, the light changes to white and during the afternoon, it slowly starts to fade and becomes quite dim in the evening. Just like the rhythm of the sun.
”It’s absolutely key to have a good, clear light”, says Birte Schelde. This is how they achieved a healthy working environment at the care home, Lindegården.
