At Solar, we like to be part of the action. Recently, we were involved in supplying lighting to Elgiganten's giant facility in Jönköping, which, with its almost 200,000 square meters, is one of the largest logistics centers in the Nordic region.

Shortly after the summer, Elgiganten's new logistics centre was inaugurated in Torsvik, just outside Jönköping in Sweden. The company already had a large facility on one side of the E4 highway, which has now been supplemented with an additional 86,000 square meters on the other side of the road. The total area is now almost 200,000 square metres, making the logistics centre one of the largest in the Nordic region.
In addition to storage space, the new facility also houses a large office. In addition, Solar Light has been involved in designing lighting and delivering luminaires. Pendant luminaires, tiles and downlights were supplied to the project, and above all, the very popular Inverso II. The stairwells also have luminaires that are controlled with ActiveAhead control, which means that they talk to each other via Bluetooth to only shine where it is needed, when it is needed.
"This was a very successful delivery, where all parties were satisfied. We worked a lot with quick couplings on the luminaires to enable quick installation. It really makes a difference and is incredibly important in this type of giant project," says Stefan Brunefjäll, responsible sales representative at Solar Light.
Ambitious sustainability work
Something else that stands out about Elgiganten's mammoth project is that the entire construction aims to be certified according to BREEAM Excellent. BREEAM is Europe's most widely used system for environmental certification of buildings, and the Excellent level is the second highest level that can be achieved.
In practice, this means that the entire building must meet very high sustainability requirements. When it comes to lighting, for example, you have to live up to specific requirements for illuminance and have zoned lighting that can be regulated according to use.
"The BREEAM certification was a challenge in this project. It must be financially advantageous for both property owners and tenants, and it must meet the requirements set for energy efficiency, execution and documentation," says Magnus Setterlind at S.O El, who carried out the installations at Elgiganten.
"Being able to use Solar Light's expertise and advice to produce documentation makes it easier for both me as an installer and for our designer to produce finished documents.
Professional service
He goes on to say that when S.O El was given the assignment, he did not know exactly which luminaires would be used.
"However, we knew which requirements they had to meet. And then it was no problem for Solar Light's team to develop a good recommendation that works aesthetically, functionally and economically.
Magnus Setterlind and S.O El have been customers of Solar for a long time, and it is precisely the personal and professional contact that he values most:
"There are many players on the market, who carry similar products. That's why personal contact becomes so important. What help and service you get. Solar Light meets these criteria."

BREEAM stands for Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method and is Europe's most established system for environmental certification. When a building is certified according to BREEAM, points are awarded for how well sustainability-adapted different areas and initiatives are.
When it comes to lighting, points are awarded linked to energy-efficient lighting indoors and outdoors, and zoning with associated control, but also for, for example, "limiting light pollution at night". This means that with efficient design and planning, outdoor areas are not illuminated unnecessarily and thus do not disturb nocturnal animals and insects.
